On carrying what isn’t ours

Women can be like turtles. We hold whole houses, whole families, and whole communities on our backs. We look strong, so people give us more things to hold. We take them and carry them with us. People's pain, their worry, their illness. We offer to hold their problems and darkness for them.

It gets so heavy.

So much of this baggage isn’t ours to carry.
Sometimes it’s too much to hold.
We need to put it down.

Today choose something that’s too heavy and ask for help carrying it. Or simply place it down on the floor in the lobby of your life. Doesn't that feel lighter? You don't have to carry it all anymore.
